As sub-zero temperatures start to creep back in, everyone will be wrapping up like Angelina Jolie did while filming in New York.

The actress kept herself toasty warm in a Russian-style fur hat and a grey wool poncho, with matching fur lining the edges.

Angelina, 34, was pictured chatting on the phone during a break from filming her latest movie Salt, in the Big Apple - where temperatures today range from -3C to -7C.

And if her stunning cold weather style looked familiar, it seems she took her inspiration from another icon of the silver screen.

British actress Julie Christie starred in the 1965 epic Doctor Zhivago, and wore much the same look during the film set in Russia.

In a story that Angelina may well be familiar with, Christie starred in the epic David Lean film which traced the life of surgeon-poet Yury Zhivago before and during the Russian Revolution.

Married to an upper-class girl who is devoted to him, Zhivago is torn between fidelity and passion as he falls in in love with an unfortunate woman (Christie) who becomes his muse.

Angelina met her partner Brad Pitt on the set of film Mr And Mrs Smith when he was married to ex-wife Jennifer Aniston. She has denied that anything happened between the couple before his split from Aniston.

The actress was called in after her Christmas break to re-shoot scenes for the forthcoming spy thriller after the script underwent a re-write.

Some of the scenes took place at The Frying Pan, a ship anchored bar/restaurant in the Hudson River, which has been used for both interior and exterior scenes in the movie.

According to OK! Magazine, Jolie had to do the re-shoots after her on-screen husband was written out of the film.

A source told the publication: 'They're basically writing him out of the movie.

'In the original script Angelina watches her husband die in a scene. After they shot it they didn't like it for some reason and decided to change the script so they have to re-shoot some scenes.'

In the new movie Angelina Jolie takes on the role of Evelyn Salt, a CIA officer who tries to clear her name after being accused of becoming a Russian spy in an attempt to kill the U.S. president.

Brad Pitt's partner replaces Tom Cruise for the part, which is due for release in July 2010.

Meanwhile, the Hollywood beauty was recently named Beauty Icon Of The Decade in a poll taken by high street chain Superdrug, ahead of partner Brad Pitt's ex-wife Jennifer Aniston who came in in second place.
