Who Will ... - Associated Content Posted: 29 Mar 2010 02:48 AM PDT EmpireOnline is reporting that Angelina Jolie might be the lucky actress who gets to play evil Disney queen Maleficent in the movie that retells the 'Sleeping Beauty' tale from the fearsome fairy's point of view. I must say that Angelina definitely has the facial structure to fill Maleficent's malicious-looking horned hood, and it would be pretty awesome to see her transform into a dragon. However, two big questions remain: how will the story of 'Sleeping Beauty' be reworked to be all about Maleficent, and who would play Princess Aurora (a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty)? Well, perhaps we'll learn the back story of why Maleficent became an evil fairy, as opposed to her bickering brethren who would rather use their powers to change Aurora's dress color than for ill intent. Was she the product of a curse herself? Did she lose a lover to another fairy or a human? I can really see this story line going the way of the 'Wicked' musical, the back story of the Wicked Witch of the West from 'The Wizard of Oz' (who also suffered from a green skin condition). Being the most elegant, devious, deadliest, and most powerful of the many Disney villains, with a devil-like horned hood, the ability to shape-shift into a fire-breathing beast, goblin minions at her command, and a taste for revenge that obviously flares up at the slightest slight (I mean, she tried to kill a girl because she wasn't invited to her christening), Maleficent definitely deserves her own movie, and it would be great to learn more about her. But I'd like to see the tides turned here a bit, making Sleeping Beauty less of a perfect princess and more of a spoiled brat somewhat deserving of her fate. And who better to play Aurora's role than Megan Fox (we'd finally get to see these two actresses onscreen together in a way that works!). Five Filters featured article: Chilcot Inquiry. ANGELINA JOLIE has been beaten to the title of best celebrity mother in a new poll - by America's First Lady, MICHELLE OBAMA.
The Tomb Raider beauty, who shares six kids with boyfriend Brad Pitt, has been voted into second place in the survey by Babble.com. Jolie is praised for her charity work with the United Nations, her USD 1 million (GBP625,000) donation with Pitt to the Haiti earthquake relief fund, and her support of an orphanage in Amman, Jordan. The website's editors note, "(It's) easy to despise someone like Angelina Jolie. She may have an eccentric, brother-kissing, blood vial-wearing past, but now she's a mother who instills empathy, compassion and generosity - and for that, we love her." Comedienne Tina Fey landed third spot in the poll, while Jennifer Garner and Reese Witherspoon rounded out the top five. --IANS-WENN

Angelina Jolie is in talks to star as Maleficent, the evil fairy godmother from Sleeping Beauty, in a new live-action version of the Disney classic, which would be retold from the baddie's perspective. Guess working with Johnny Depp is all the recommendation Tim Burton needs. However, the Alice in Wonderland director—who continues to prove just how adept he is at reworking classic fairy tales—has a much more tenuous involvement in the project and, per the Los Angeles Times , has yet to decide whether to take on the movie. It's also unclear whether Jolie's interest hinges on his own. In any case, it would mark one of the few family-friendly films in the family-collecting actress's career (fighting pandas and sharks and bosomy video game vixens excepted).
