Movie bosses have reportedly scrapped plans for a follow-up to 2008 action movie WANTED after ANGELINA JOLIE pulled out of the project.

The Hollywood beauty starred as a deadly assassin in the first film, alongside Scottish actor James MCAvoy, who recently revealed producers have been working on plans for a sequel.

Jolie wasn't expected to return for a second film as her character appeared to die at the end of the original movie, but new reports suggest the actress was wanted for the follow-up and her decision not to take part has forced producers to scrap the project altogether.

According to New York Magazine's Vulture movie blog, bosses at Universal would rather cancel the sequel than recast Jolie's character.

Jolie is said to have turned down the project to star in Alfonso Cuaron's new space thriller Gravity, about the lone survivor of a space mission who is desperate to return to Earth to see her daughter.

Jon Voight can't stop talking about how happy he is regarding his reunion with his estranged daughter, Angelina Jolie.

"It was just wonderful to spend time with Angelina and Brad and the children," Voight, 71, told RadarOnline.com.

The father and daughter were snapped enjoying a boat ride down the Grand Canal in Venice on Sunday, along with Pitt and their six children. The reunion came after years of estrangement that began in 2002 when Voight publicly criticized his daughter for having "serious mental problems."

Jolie retaliated by legally removing Voight from her name, as well as cutting him out her life.

All week, celeb watchers have wondered how the long and icy wedge between the famous father and daughter melted away. Voight said that the healing has a slow and careful process.

"Angie and I have been in contact on the phone and by email for some time now," Voight said. "We've been working towards a full reconciliation for a while. Angie had to feel it was the right time to bring me into the lives of her and the kids and after some work she decided the moment had arrived."

Now, Voight just wants to bask in the afterglow of the reunion.

"I've been waiting so long to hug my grandchildren and it was amazing," he gushed. "They are the most beautiful, loving kids you could imagine and I'm not just saying that because I'm their grandfather, they really are something special."

The veteran actor also opened up to Us Weekly, telling the mag that his trip was "lovely" and marveling at the similarities between Jolie as a baby and the actress' 3-year-old biological daughter, Shiloh.

"I have baby pictures that are very resembling of Shiloh," he said. "I don't know about all the resemblances, but obviously there are some because of the genes."

He expressed fatherly pride about his daughter, while squashing rumors of trouble between Jolie, 34, and partner Brad Pitt, 46.

"Angelina and Brad are so happy together and they are the most amazing, loving parents I've ever seen," he told Radar. "It truly moved me to see how Angie is as a mom, I am so proud of her - she has so much love to give and to share with the children and with Brad."

As for future plans to see his daughter and grandchildren again, Voight said he remains optimistic of another visit.

"I hope I get to see them again soon," he said. "I want to spend as much time with them as possible."

Uproar over Angelina Jolie as Dr. Kay Scarpetta in Upcoming Film - Softpedia

Angelina Jolie is currently in Venice, Italy, shooting for "The Tourist," a film that will also star Johnny Depp. While photos of her on set are emerging online on a daily basis, some fans are outraged she's been chosen for a part in a film that will only go into production later this year, that of forensic investigator Dr. Kay Scarpetta, the Daily Mail reports.

Dr. Scarpetta is a popular fictional character created by US writer Patricia Cornwell, a well respected author of crime books, which are believed to have inspired some of the most famous crime series now running on TV. She has sold the rights for a long feature adaptation and, as per ongoing reports, plans are in place to make of the first film the basis of a successful and long-lived franchise. Angelina Jolie was chosen as the lead, but fans of the novels fear she might be too "exotic" for how the character was initially conceived.

"Angelina Jolie has sparked fury among the fans of Patricia Cornwell's bestselling crime novels by being chosen to play its heroine Kay Scarpetta. Many say Jolie is 'too glamorous' and 'exotic' looking to play the screen version of the medical examiner. The character in 17 best selling books is a petite, middle-aged woman with short blonde hair – much like the 53-year-old author herself," the Mail reports.

Mrs. Cornwell herself says Jolie was not her first choice but she was more than happy to have her when she heard she was available. "When Angelina came out of the left field last year, I was floored. Angelina had pithy things to say about what she wanted to do," Mrs. Cornwell says of how the first meeting with Jolie went. "She was direct and goal-oriented. She waited on everyone, getting them their lunch, while her own staff was seated. She was aware intuitively how other people were feeling and wanted to make them comfortable. It was not typical for people of her stature," the writer adds.

Fans writing on the message boards on Cornwell's official website, though, are a far cry from seeing things her way. Most of them have read all her books and Jolie is the last person they would see play the main character, because she's "exotic," while the forensic specialist has "class," is "striking" and of an athletic build. A better choice would have been Jodie Foster, they say, as per the above-mentioned publication.

Angelina Jolie gets thumbs up from Scarpetta creator Cornwell! - Entertainment and Showbiz!

Many eyebrows raised and several 'whys' and 'can she' questions popped up when Angelina Jolie was reportedly selected to play Dr. Kay Scarpetta from Patricia Cornwell's bestselling novel. But it seems the mouths will be shut as the writer herself has given the nod for Jolie.

Monster And Critics and The Daily Mail report that the creator of Scarpetta has herself said Jolie is the perfect choice to play her fictional character. She says that she had met Jolie on the sets of her film "Salt" and Jolie was evidently impressed by the concept of Cornwell's story.

But wasn't Jodie Foster the first choice as Dr. Kay Scarpetta? Yes she was! And she would have fit into the character in terms of the age factor and hair color. But as she turned down the offer, the concept was presented to Angelina Jolie.

Cornwell is pretty much impressed with Jolie and is sure she can carry off the role well. According to Cornwell, Jolie is plain and simple and very enthusiastic towards her work. She cares for everyone in the set of her movie, which is unlikely to be seen in superstars like her.

But will Jolie fit in Dr. Scarpetta's character? Will she carry the middle-aged look well? Will she really be perfect as the short blonde hair?

We bet she will. And to further support our words, we have Patricia Cornwell now who too gives a full score to Jolie…
