Angelina Jolie asks Obama to do more for Sudanese people - Modern Ghana

Posted: 14 Dec 2009 02:55 AM PST

Actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie wants President Obama's administration to take greater steps towards establishing peace in Sudan.

Jolie, in her role as the co-chair of the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, wrote an op-ed piece for Newsweek magazine on Thursday, the day Obama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize.

Jolie wrote that Obama's administration has not yet announced any serious moves to bring corrupt Sudanese leaders to justice and said she is worried that the administration does not have a clear enough plan to improve the lives of the Sudanese people.

"I believe President Obama and his special envoy Scott Gration will do their best to bring peace to the region," Jolie, a U.N. goodwill ambassador, wrote. "Their policy, though, raises a number of questions. How is the Obama administration's approach to Sudan an evolution of justice? In addition, when the administration says it intends to work to 'improve the lives of the people of Darfur,' I would like to know what that means, besides the obvious point that their lives could hardly get worse."

In the piece, headlined "Justice Delayed Is Not Justice Denied,"
Jolie suggests the administration "explore ways to bring [Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir] to justice."

"This means bringing all permanent members of the U.N. Security Council on board to send the message that the international community will not tolerate mass atrocities," Jolie wrote.

She added, "I also hope we will act sooner and more powerfully to prevent future atrocities," and suggested the administration looks to a Council on Foreign Relations report funded by the Jolie-Pitt
Foundation that "offers recommendations to improve the U.N. Security Council's responsiveness by discouraging vetoes in cases of mass atrocities, while urging the United States to make clear its willingness to act on its own if necessary."

The actress and her partner Brad Pitt, who together have six children, created the Jolie-Pitt Foundation in 2006 and have used it to donate to a variety of humanitarian causes and to fund research.

Angelina Jolie Suicide Attempt Alleged By Tabloid - The Hollywood Gossip

Posted: 16 Dec 2009 09:48 AM PST

Like, OMG. Angelina Jolie was apparently thisclose to ending it all before Brad Pitt heroically saved her from a rash suicide attempt, a certain tabloid reports.

While we can't avoid giving the National Enquirer its due - they blew the lid off Isaiah Washington f-word gate, John Edwards' love child with Rielle Hunter and Tiger Woods' affair with Rachel Uchitel - we're not buying this for a second.

Whether you believe it or not is up to you, but the gossip rag reports that after recently falling into a deep depression, Angelina Jolie attempted suicide!

Fortunately, life partner Brad Pitt sprung into action to make sure the mother of his 147 children wasn't Taking Lives - wow, she walked into that one.

The sultry brunette beauty confessed to Brad that she was afraid her suicidal tendencies would return after learning he had made plans to move out.

That would seriously drive us to end it all too.

Angelina Jolie Suicide!

BRANGELINA BEDLAM! Phew, Brad saved Angie in the nick of time.

Not that this actually took place, mind you, but we're guessing when the Enquirer editors made it up, Jennifer Aniston somehow factored into the mix.

Fortunately (and laughably) Pitt assured her the separation was temporary, and their love would survive the test. This is Oscar-worthy material here.

"Brad was in France checking on their chateau recently, and Angelina was in Los Angeles with the kids when she called him in a panic," a friend divulged.

"She told him, 'When you're not around, I get these terrible feelings. I got the same feelings when I was younger, and that's when I tried to kill myself.'

"Angelina said, 'I feel lost without you. I'm being abandoned.'" Thankfully, though, Angelina Jolie is still among the living as of right now. Good job Brad!

Nice Brad reassured high-strung Angelina he wasn't leaving for good, even if they're apart, saying "I'll always be there for you and the kids, I promise.'"

More on her bitter showdown with Jen next week, we're sure, thanks to tabloids have an In Case of Slow Gossip Week, Create Brangelina Gossip policy.

New York, NY (CNS) - Angelina Jolie is happy that her adopted daughter Zahara, who is 4, now has a positive role model. Jolie has reportedly spoken out about how she is happy that Disney's first black princess in "The Princess and the Frog" is a positive influence on her Ethiopian daughter.

The animated feature is currently ruling the box office and is set in Jazz-Age era New Orleans. The tale centers around a beautiful princess named Tiana and a frog prince who desperately wants to be human again. A kiss leads the two on a fantastic adventure through the swamps of Louisiana.

According to OK! magazine: "Angelina Jolie has spoken about how she's ecstatic that her four-year-old daughter Zahara will have a role model thanks to the barrier being broken."

Tiana is voiced by actress Anika Noni Rose. Rose told Valerie Nome of Ok! magazine, "It's wonderful. I think every little girl should be able to feel themselves the princess. I think every little girl is worthy of having a princely young man, and vice versa."

Rose went on to say, "It's really thrilling that Zahara will never have a moment where she didn't see herself in that light. She's Ethiopian. She comes from kings and queens. She should certainly know herself as a princess."
